JOSEPH M. PLACER JR. has practiced law in Lafayette for almost two decades, specializing in tax and estate planning matters. A graduate of Louisiana State University (B.S.), Louisiana State University Law Center (J.D.), and the University of Denver Law Center (LL.M. Tax), he was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in 1996 and the Colorado State Bar in 1998. He is also licensed to practice before the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, and the United States District Court, Western, Middle, and Eastern Districts of Louisiana. He has been certified by the Louisiana State Bar Association's Board of Legal Specialization as a Tax Law Specialist as well as an Estate Planning and Administration Specialist. Mr. Placer is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Colorado State Bar Association and the Lafayette Parish Bar Association.
Mr. Placer currently serves on the Estate Planning and Administration Committee of the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization, is a past Chair of the Tax Committee of the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization, and is a frequent lecturer for the National Business Institute, providing attorney continuing legal education.

J. MICHAEL PLACER retired from and closed his private legal practice in 2010 following a long and very distinguished legal career of over 40 years, which began with his admission to the Louisiana State Bar in 1969. Mr. Placer provided wise counsel and advice where needed until his passing in 2016.
